One of the worst feelings in the world is feeling your lips peel during the day or having them feel super dry! Lips are often over looked, but as the weather get's hotter and summer quickly approaching, prevention is everything as it takes around 1-2 weeks for lips to recover from a dry spell.

Take a look at these 5 ways to keep your lips hydrated for summer.

Β

1. Drink Water

I'm sure you saw this one coming! It's the worst tip to hear from EVERYTHING, but probably the best you can do for yourself. Drinking water is essential for not only lip hydration, but for plump skin, smooth skin, and overall health and well-being. Staying hydrated from within will not only make you feel better and radiant, but will transform your lips on the outside to stay plump and hydrated as well. So grab that smart water and keep it by you at all times! You'll thank me later ;)

*I've recently been challenging myself to drink 2 liters of water a day and it also does wonders for your skin!

2. Exfoliate

If I'm being honest, there aren't many lip exfoliants out there that I'm completely in love with and trust me, I've tried a lot. I do enjoy a homemade gentle honey-sugar scrub, mainly because it tastes amazing, but the best way I've found to exfoliate my lips at night without the hassle of products is to take a warm, damp wash cloth at night and gently rub my lips in circles with it. To avoid my lips feeling too dry after I exfoliate, I follow up with a creamy lip balm or lip mask every time.

3. Lip Mask

I always thought lip masks were kind of iffy, especially over night masks because I thought they were just lip balms in disguise or they would rub off my sheets at night. That is definitely not the case with the one's I've used! I'm not a big fan of the gel patches or physical (sheet) lip masks, but my favorite is the Laneige Overnight Lip Mask. I received this through Influenster a while ago and fell in love! It's only a small size but it has lasted for ever. It feels really thick on the lips which is actually a good thing considering I wake up and it feels like I just applied fresh lip balm.

4. Invest in good chapstick/lip balm

This may sound obvious, but when I say good chapstick/lip balm, I'm not talking about the dollar chapstick from the gas station you bought because you lost your purse chapstick the other day. Lower quality chapstick will make your lips temporarily feel comfort, however, your lips will feel even more dry after it ends up wearing off. For long-lasting lip hydration, do your research and invest in a few different quality chapsticks and lip balms proven to increase comfort. Luckily for us, investing is never more than a few dollars. I'll list my favorite ones down below:

Burts Bee's

Blistex Medicated Lip Balm

Caudalie Lip Conditioner

5. Gloss it up

The other tips are great for long-term hydration for your lips, but for those of you who live in a super dry climate (like me) and are looking for temporary relief, I actually suggest a super glossy lip! There are a few glosses I have that aren't sticky that I feel lock in the moisture of a lip balm and add that extra layer of protection against that dry air! Here are a few that you might like that go with every lip color and outfit:

Glossier Lip Gloss

KKW Ultra Light Beams Lipgloss

Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb
