How to Keep Your Skin Hydrated

Of course, it's summer time which means it is hot, sticky and your skin is going through it! A lot of people out there struggle with extra dry skin, so I'm here to help! Here are my top 5 tips on how to keep your skin hydrated throughout the hot summer months.

Drink Water

Cliche, I know, but it really does help. My skin never looked as good as it did when I was chugging a gallon of water a day. Trust me, it won't be easy, and you'll get frustrated with how much you'll have to pee throughout the day, but your skin will thank you because true hydration starts from within.

This may seem odd, but you can't hydrate your skin if there's dead skin cells in the way. Exfoliating 1-2 times a week removes dead skin from your face and allows your makeup products to penetrate your skin and work more effectively. I love to use the Dr. Brant Microdermabrasion Age Defying Exfoliator or the Freeman Feeling Beautiful Charcoal & Black Sugar Facial Polishing Mask mixed with my face wash for a light exfoliant or the Kate Somerville Exfolikate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment for a deep exfoliant.

Hyaluronic Acid

Everyone tends to freak out at the sound of acid, but this type of acid isn't really an acid! Hyaluronic acid is naturally found in the body and it is known for holding mass amounts of moisture. Using this serum after you tone, morning and night will dramatically help improve moisture to your skin. Here are some of my favorites:

ArtNaturals Hyaluronic Acid: $13 (use code Battle20 for 20% off)

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid: $6.80

Skin Inc. Hyaluronic Acid Serum: $25

COSXR Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence: $24

Moisturize Like It's Your Job

This one may seem obvious, but of course, it's most important. I like to incorporate gel moisturizers during the day for maximum moisture and a cream during the night to deeply penetrate my skin for overnight moisture. Below are my favorite moisturizers for day and night.

Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturizer: $16 (make sure to get the water gel, otherwise you might end up with the gel cream, which still is good, but I prefer the water gel)

Benefit Triple Performing Facial Emulsion SPF 15: $32

Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream: $52

Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel: $27 (again, the gel, not lotion, but the lotion is also good)

Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream: $60

Olay Regenerist Night Recovery Cream: $25

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Hydra-Firm Sleeping Cream: $38

Hydrating Face Masks

There are a TON of them on the market and there is no excuse these days to not get your hands on one of these. Most hydrating face masks are sheet masks, which leave you with a layer of serum that you can moisturize into your skin for not only a spa like experience, but deep hydration for the day or the night. Check out these below if you're looking for a place to start.

Sephora Sheet Masks: $6

Neutrogena Moisturizing Hydro Boost Hydrating Face Mask: $2.59

Summer Friday's Jet Lag Mask: $48

Fresh Rose Face Mask: $68

Try out a homemade honey mask as well! You can find any DIY for these on Pinterest or Youtube.

How To Instantly Transform Your Skin

It's been a while since I've shared some skin care knowledge with you guys and that is for a good reason; my skin has been struggling.

Part of me feels like a hypocrite preaching about transforming your skin when I'm suffering through a full blown acne attack and have massive scarring, but newsflash to me, it's totally normal!

I go through up's and downs with my skin just like everyone else and just because my skin is going through a bit of a bad time, doesn't mean I have a bad routine! Troublesome skin can be the result of many different things, whether it be hormones, stress, reactions with makeup products, something you eat, something in your environment, etc. However, there are a few things you can do to instantly transform your skin and get it back on track like I did, which is what I'm going to share with you guys today!

Identify Your Problem

This may seem like a simple tip, but inaccurately diagnosing the true problem could cause you to go about a skin care regime that could be working against you. Are you having trouble with acne, or did you forget to take off your makeup? Do you have dry patches or did you just drink a little bit too much the night before?

Identifying your problem has to come from a whole-body standpoint, and being honest with yourself! Things like sleeping in your makeup can immediately take effect onto your skin the next day through clogged pores and acne, however our skin sheds and goes through cycles, so the issue you are having is probably caused by something you did a week or two ago. Take some time, listen to your body, and identify if your skin is going through something on-going, or if it's just the result of something you might have missed.

Take a weekend off of makeup

Bet you'd never see me talking about this! Putting on my makeup in the morning is literally my time to relax, focus on myself and truly enjoy a moment to myself, so the thought of even going a day without that mental boost in the morning is something I cringe at! However, I recently had to get surgery on my jaw, which meant I couldn't pounce a Beautyblender on my face for at least 5 days (and boy, was it rough!)

Through that time though, I noticed that I was able to focus a little bit more on my skin and I instantly saw it transform! This might have something to do with me cutting out alcohol because of my medications and chugging water on the daily because of feeling dehydrated, but I noticed my skin become more radiant, bright and less irritated for the time I went without makeup. I hate to say I enjoy that, but I feel like taking the few days of reset my skin and let it breathe put it back into focus and when I did put on my makeup again, the application was 10 times smoother than before.

***for those of you reading this who don't wear makeup on the daily, you can take this section to treat yourself to some extra luxurious skin care treatments like sheet masks and serums to start taking action against what you recognized to be the problem in the first place!

Limit Your Skin Care Routine

You may have 3 items kin your collection or you may have 300. In either case, take the time to see what you are ACTUALLY putting onto your skin.

This now goes back to identifying your problem. In most scenarios, if you have a 20 step skin care routine, you are probably over-doing it. Pick out only a few products from your collection to help reset your skin issue and put the others on hold. If you don't feel like you have the products you need in order to treat whatever it is you're struggling with, do some research and invest in one (you'll feel good to treat yourself to some nice skin care as well!)

In the end, it's all about balance. You don't want to over-do anything when it comes to your skin care because our bodies are smart. Too much of anything is never good, so simplifying your routine down to a few products for a week or so can give your skin time to relax, rebuild and regenerate to a healthy stand-point.

Looking for a quick fix?

I know there are some of you guys out there who are literally looking for a quick fix of skin care, so I don't want to leave you guys disappointed! In the end, there is no overnight fix to skin care, it does take time. However, here are a few of my favorite makeup products that I can see results from in just a few hours and some, even minutes!

Neutrogena Stubborn Acne Spot Gel: relives redness in acne in under an hour and my blemishes are gone within a day or two! ***stubborn acne brand only! The regular doesn't work as well for me.

Summer Friday's Jet Lag Mask: rescue product for tired, dehydrated skin! Apply a thin layer overnight and your skin will be taught in the morning

GlamGlow Youthmud: kind of a harsh mask, but it exfoliates like no other and leaves skin instantly looking even and soft.

Neutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel: the one moisturizer that instantly hydrates for the entire day.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask: apply this overnight and the crustiest of lips are saved instantly!

Hope these help you get your skin to where they need to be! Comment below your skin concerns and I'll give you some tips on how to fix it.

September Beauty and Skin Care Favorites

It's the end of the month which means, I can finally share with you my September beauty and skin care favorites! There were a BUNCH of new releases this September and quite frankly, I couldn't get my hands on all of them, but I definitely grabbed some of the best.

Some of you may wonder why I do this blog post/video every month, and to be honest, it's pretty fun for me to do! I love looking back at the month and seeing how the beauty and skin care game changed for me. More specifically, doing this favorites of the month blog allows me to expand my collection and give you guys insights in to products that are worth buying for your collection. I take these very seriously because I never want to mislead you guys into buying something that isn't good (when sometimes, a lot of people are trying to tell you a product is good when in reality, it's crap!)

So let's cut the chit chat and get right into the favorites!

Beauty Favorites

Fenty Beauty Soft Filt'r Primer and Foundation

You had to know this one was coming! I did a full review over the Fenty Beauty collection that you can check out here, but out of the collection, these two products were my absolute favorites! The primer has absolutely grown on me. It is a very hydrating foundation which can help with my oily skin, but it keeps my foundations pretty matte throughout the day too, so I switch between this primer and the Hourglass mineral veil primer.

The foundation can speak for itself. It's SO easy to find the perfect match for you, and it literally makes your face look like you have a "soft filter". It is very lightweight, medium coverage and a VERY good price point as well. Again check out my first impressions if you want to see my other opinions on this but it literally is the foundation I wear everyday now (again, sorry Hourglass vanish stick!)

Colourpop x Iluvsarahii Collection (Lip's only)

This collection didn't launch in September but... I just purchased the collection in September and these colors have literally, been the only lip products I've been wearing! The "Curvii" and "951" sets are perfect for my day time natural and full glam looks. "Mamacita" and "Arriba" are perfect for my fall glam looks as well as a classic glam look. The formulas are very comfortable and extremely affordable as well. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with Colourpop!

House of Lashes: Iconic

You have most likely seen these lashes EVERYWHERE on Youtube! I just started wearing these and I have to say, I LOVE them! I typically would wear my $6 Ardell lashes, but I wanted something more sturdy and longer lasting, and these lashes take the cake. The band is thick (which some people hate, but I need a thick lash band) and the shape is perfect for my eyes.

Skin Care

L'Oreal Pure Clay Mask: Detox and Brighten

The texture of this mask is pretty grainy, which is good for a gently exfoliator on my skin. It doesn't tighten up so much where I can't talk while wearing it, but it tightens just enough for me to comfortably wear it around the house while it does its work. I haven't noticed TOO much a difference in my skin after using it, but it does leave my skin extremely soft and a perfect for makeup application directly after as it isn't too drying.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Miracle product right here! I've always had trouble with dry lips, even more now that we're in Vegas, and this makes my lips soft literally overnight. You just apply it at night and you wake up with baby soft lips. I wish I would wear this all day everyday but, I can't! It just works, and that's the best part about it.

Origin's Zero Oil Cleanser

I was a bit unsure about this cleanser... I didn't believe a cleanser could actually take away my oil control problem and... it doesn't, but it definitely helps! The days I use this I definitely produce less oil. The cleanser also has mint in it, which wakes up my skin in the morning and leaves me with a matte slate for the day.

My Favorite Natural Skin Care Brands

Some people may not think that natural skin care is important, but I believe natural skin care is a necessity. I feel so much better putting products on my face knowing there are less ingredients to mess with the balance of my natural skin.

Do I think we all need to go vegan and straight out of the earth for skin care? Absolutely not! It gets pretty intense and very pricey. Do I think we should strive for organic, pure ingredients that are also cruelty free? Absolutely.

Here are the 6 natural skin care brands I love and include in my skin care regimen daily!

This is a brand I stand behind 100%! Their products are not only natural but feel amazing on the skin as well. Their Gin-Zing line of products all are very refreshing and all of their masks I've adored so far.

This is a relatively new brand, and also relatively pricey, but they market their products as being the purest of ingredients all while black listing over 2000 harmful ingredients that are typically allowed in standard skin care manufacturing. I have not been able to get my hands on their products just yet, but I am eager to try their 100% Squalane oil.

You all know how I feel about Tarte! They're not only my favorite makeup brand, but they are also my favorite skin care brand. My current routine includes their rainforest of the sea cleanser, under eye brightening cream, maracuja oil and sometimes the 4 in 1 spray. I love how clean their products feel as well as the wide selection of products to choose from. This is one brand that can definitely do both makeup and skin care, BOTH very well.

I thoroughly enjoy any mask made by boscia. I turn to their brand mainly for the exfoliating products they have because they are extremely high quality and make my face feel so smooth soft and supple!

What are your favorite natural skin care brands and products?
