How to Fix an Instagram Shadowban

If you've followed me for a while, you know I've been dealing with the ever so mysterious and quite frankly, stupid, Instagram shadowban, which is why I want to tell you how to fix an Instagram shadowban. I made a video around 4 months ago telling my story on how I realized it came about and what it meant, and it's literally been my most viewed video to date (which is sad, because my Youtube is all beauty related... oh well.)

I decided to do an update video to tell you guys how my Instagram is doing and give you guys some more insight into this ban, but I am also writing down the tips I have for avoiding or lifting a shadowban in this blog for your convenience.

While I am still dealing with being banned on a few posts here and there (I explain what I mean by this during the video) I still have a few posts that have been ok, and that's where my advice is coming from in this post. Below I will link to both videos and give you my 5 tips on how to fix an Instagram shadowban.

How to Fix an Instagram Shadowban

TAKE SOME TIME OFF POSTING

This is the best way to ensure a shadowban to go away. It might be hard, but take some time to reflect on your content and come back stronger than ever. I took about 4 days off the first time I was completely over it, and after I came back, I didn't use hashtags at all for a couple of days.

CLEAN OUT YOUR HASHTAGS

The most common reason that a shadowban happens, seems to be using banned hashtags. I explain in the video where to find out if hashtags are banned, but short story short, head to the hashtag feed and if it only shows the top posts, it's banned.

SWITCH UP THE HASHTAGS YOU'RE USING

Instead of using the same ones over and over again, switch them up. Using the exact same hashtags, not even in the same order, can ultimately look like spam and might get you banned. Have at least 100 different ones if you keep a list. This way, it'll be difficult to repeat the same ones over and over again. Tailoring your hashtags to your specific content will also avoid consistent repeat tags.

MIX UP THE NUMBER OF HASHTAGS IN EACH POST

In addition to the last post, also switch up the number of tags you are using per post. For example, try 10 tags in one post, then 3, then 20 then none. Consistently using the max 30 hashtags can be beneficial... that is, if you don't get banned. For the majority of us bloggers however, be careful.

IGNORE IT AND MAKE BOMB CONTENT

A shadowban is definitely a huge set back, but it isn't the end of the world! The point of us being on Instagram is to express ourselves through our content, so let's keep it that way. Instagram isn't the end all be all, nor should it be. Remember, nothing on social media or the internet will last forever. If you are dedicated to only one platform, whether it be Instagram or not, you should remember that nothing is owned by you. Anyone one of these businesses could go under tomorrow and we suddenly won't have our content anymore, and then what?

Keep doing you, making great content and get creative! There are so many more ways to grow your audience and content, so take advantage of them! If you have any more suggestions, please leave them down below. Let's help each other out!
